The Hanging-Cloud Bridge, film

Very recently Elisabeth Remy Johnson (principle harp of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra) gave a fascinating recital at this year’s American Harp Society conference. The theme of her concert was to do with the creative mind, as well as consciousness and meditation. As part of this she included an early work of mine, ‘The Hanging-Cloud Bridge’, […]

Recording of London Blues

Not long ago I completed four fairly short pieces for Mari Mäntylä, called ‘London Blues’. These are for the decacorde, a ten string guitar. They’ll be premiered over the summer in France, but today and tomorrow they’re being recorded in Hauho Church.

Performances in Rome

The Villa Lante, in Rome, is one of the most amazing places I’ve had my music performed. Set on a hill overlooking the city its concert space is open on one side for a near perfect view of Rome. It was a fantastic concert – given by Assi and Rody – and I could have […]

French Concerto in Brooklyn

‘French Concerto’ will be performed tonight at the Brooklyn Conservatory, with a slightly revised instrumentation from it’s French premiere last year. The harpsichord part is played by Rebecca Pechefsky. It sounds like there should be a recording, which I’m very much looking forward to hearing!

Rondeau

Belated thanks to Marie van Rhijn for premiering a short harpsichord piece of mine, ‘Rondeau’, in Paris very recently. The music is an offshoot from the piece ‘French Concerto’, a work which will be given it’s US premiere by the OMNI Ensemble tomorrow.

‘Our World’ concert, Helsinki

There’s a video of the recent Our World benefit concert, where an array of different musicians played for a good cause. Rody and Assi performed my Sing, Memory – this starts at about 50 mins, and prior to that Rody explains how he learned Finnish by reading Moomin books 😀 Many thanks also in the […]

Unreal Promenades in New York

‘Unreal Promenades’ was recently premiered by the Eastman Saxophone Project in New York, and the audio is now up on Soundcloud. I’m still amazed at the incredible range of sounds that nine brilliantly played saxophones can make, from gorgeously blended sonorities through to abrasive and biting gestures. The piece takes Breton’s surrealist novel ‘Nadja’ as […]

Interview on Liter.Net – Romania

Here’s a conversation I had with Ilinca Bernea – novelist, poet, theatre director, and much else – on Romania’s leading cultural portal, LiterNet. (this is the link to the English translation) http://atelier.liternet.ro/articol/16325/Ilinca-Bernea-Graham-Lynch/On-Art-and-Inner-Realms.html

Interview in Rondo magazine

The current issue of ‘Rondo’ (Finland’s classical music magazine) has a three-way discussion on the harpsichord as a contemporary instrument. And I enjoyed taking part in this with Paola Livorsi (composer) and Assi Karttunen – it’s good to see the harpsichord featured in this way!! And thanks also to journalist Auli Särkiö for making this […]

River God audio

Recently, in Cambridge, pianist Yukie Smith performed ‘Beyond the River God’; a set of five pieces which was the title work of Assi Karttunen’s recent harpsichord CD. It’s the first time it has has been played on piano. Although I couldn’t be at the concert Yukie has posted a recording she made later on Youtube. […]
