London Guitar Festival premieres

I’m back in Penzance now after a fantastic weekend at the London Guitar Festival. It’s rare that I’d have two premieres on one day but on Saturday lunchtime I had a fantastic performance of ‘Masques’ given by Dimitris Soukaras – he’d really grasped the character and moods of the music and brought the piece to life with great skill and insight; a guitarist to look out for in the future. And in the ‘Big Night of the Guitar’ concert in the evening the Eurostrings ensemble (10 Europe-wide prizewinning guitarists, and also including Dimitris) gave the first performance of another IGF commission, ‘Waltz Cocteau’, and at short notice they pulled it off really well, with Tom Kerstens conducting and skilfully negotiating my usual frequent time/tempo changes!
