‘Et in Arcadia ego’. Over the years much has been written on exactly what these words mean (and to no great conclusion). So it’s refreshing to see an alternative approach. Tomorrow, in the lovely Organo Hall of the Helsinki Music Centre, these words will be explored through music, dance, auditory and spatial design; and within the context of the 18th-century idea of meditation gardens for contemplative walks.
This performance will include the premiere of my ‘Pastorale’ for harpsichord, as well as another piece of mine ‘Rondeau’ (both played by Assi Karttunen). It sounds like a fascinating event, and many thanks to all those involved as I know it’s taken a long time to put this complex and multi-layered work together.
